OPENING NIGHT
Works by Montgomery, Shaw, & Turina
The Cannon Beach Music Festival’s second season will open with a short and festive concert featuring Jessie Montgomery’s Duo for Violin and Cello, Caroline Shaw’s Valencia for string quartet, and Joachin Turina’s Scene Andalouse, featuring viola soloist Amber Archibald-Sešek. Join us for a post-concert celebration and reception featuring a live jazz performance by pianist Jake Sele and artistic director Caitlin Kelley.

POSTCARD FROM PARIS
A free community concert
Take a break from the beach and be transported to the streets of Paris through a charming and magical program of all French music. The concert will feature Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Sonata for 2 Violins No. 1 in B-Flat Major, Germaine Tailleferre’s Berceuse for violin and piano, selections from Claude Debussy’s Estampes for solo piano, Gabriel Fauré’s Elegie for cello and piano, Camille Saint-Saëns’s violin showpiece Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso, and festival pianist Jake Sele’s arrangement of La vie en rose for Violin, Two Cellos, & Piano.

STRING SERENADE
Works by Watras, Kouyoumdjian, Kodaly, & Arensky
CBMF is thrilled to present two works written by festival violist and composer Melia Watras, Homage to Swan Lake and Sphere for Two Violins. The program will also include Mary Kouyoumdjian’s recently composed Future Eruptions Are Expected, Zoltán Kodály’s joyful and improvisatory Serenade, Op. 12, and Anton Arensky’s lyrical masterpiece, the Quartet No. 2 in A Minor for Violin, Viola, and Two Cellos.

A free family concert
Calling all intergalactic explorers! Join Caitlin Kelley and Jake Sele for an exciting musical adventure through space, featuring music from Holst’s The Planets, popular film soundtracks, and more. Come early at 10am for conducting lessons and crafts!

ON WENLOCK EDGE
Works by Vaughan Williams, Barrière, Tailleferre, & Mendelssohn
The final concert of the festival will feature acclaimed tenor Martin Bakari in Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge, an ethereal and melancholy setting of British poet A.E Housman’s cycle of poems A Shropshire Lad. The concert will also include Jean Barrière’s charming Sonata No. 10 in G major for two cellos, Germaine Tailleferre’s soulful Fantaisie, and Felix Mendelssohn’s stormy and passionate String Quartet No. 6 in F minor.
